Reception blog – 23.10.26
We have finished the end of the first term. The children have done and learnt so much in 8 weeks!
Phonics
This week we have learnt the phonemes/digraphs ss, h, b, f and ff, l and ll. Our hard to read spell words are his and as. The children are working hard on their handwriting and blending simple words. Please keep practicing at home over the holidays.
Everyone should have received an email this week regarding coming to watch a phonics lesson. Spaces are limited. If you haven’t seen the email then please let us know.
Maths
This week the children looked carefully at a range of objects and used the language of comparison to describe sets of objects that they can see. Language has been a key focus and we have used the language of ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’ to describe how many objects there are in each set. ‘Fewer than’ is used rather than ‘less than’ because the focus is on countable things.
Understanding the World – RE
This week we have talked about what it means to belong to a faith community. The children told us if they go to church, Temple, Guardwara or Mosque. Miss Choudry talked to us about what it means to her to belong to a Mosque and what she does when she goes. We were lucky to learn about a Hindu celebration – Navaratri and Dyrga Puja which is ce;ebrated over 9 nights and 10 days. One of our pupils celebrated over the weekend with lots of dancing and sharing of food. Navaratri and Durga Pua teaches us about courage and kindness. To respect each other and to come together for dance, food and fun. We all shared some food with our class.
PE
In PE we finished our topic on Fundamental Movement Skills and focussed on throwing and catching. We practised beanbags into hoops during various games and catching a knotted bib to avoid being ‘out’ during a game of tig.
Bonfire Event
The children are doing so well remebering our firework poem. Please keep practising it at home. We will have a bonfire celebration on Monday 9th November at 2.40 pm on the playground. The event will be held outside, unless the forecast is rain and then it will take place in the infant hall. Everyone is welcome!

The children have been given two exciting letters this week! Reception will be having an owl visit on Thursday 12th November.
