Reception News – 29.9.23

Phonics

In phonics the children have been developing and using their listening skills. We have been outside and around school listening for different sounds. We have talked about sounds being loud, quiet, long and short. Maybe you could play a listening game at home or outside? Close your eyes, what can you hear?

Reading

This week your child has brought home a wordless reading book and a reading record. We have included lots of good ideas to help you share a wordless book with your child. Everytime you hear them read please write in your child’s reading record.

Maths

We have had lots of practical fun in maths. We have been learning about matching, sorting and comparing.

Where do you live?

The children have been talking about where they live, we got lots of good answers:

I live in England. “I live in Leeds.” “I live in Farsley.”

Some children even knew part of their address. We used Google Earth to look at where school was and talked about our houses and how they are all different. We discussed which was our favourite room and how that made us feel. We know that our houses, flats or bungalows are our home. The children have worked hard to draw their own house.

Everything else…

eyLog

We hope that you are enjoying receiving observations about your child on eyLog. Please make sure that you have activated your account. You should have received an email on Wednesday.

Lost Property

We have a number of jumpers in school that unfortunately do not have any names in them. Please can we ask that you check your child’s clothes to ensure they have brought home their own clothing. We do need all clothing, water bottles and snack boxes labelling please.

Have a lovely weekend.
