Maths
This week in Year 3 Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of numbers up to 1,000. We began by using number lines to 100, building confidence in reading, locating and comparing numbers. We then explored hundreds and moved on to representing numbers to 1,000 using practical resources and pictorial representations. We ended the week with children partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, helping them to understand the value of each digit within a number.
English
This week in English, we have been learning all about word classes. The children recapped nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs before having fun creating their own silly sentences. They then reflected on their experiences so far in Year 3 and their summer break, planning and writing their own short diary entries. The children have worked hard to develop their vocabulary and writing skills!
Guided Reading
We have started our new term text, The Stone Age Boy! The children used their inference skills to predict what the story might be about and explored the similarities and differences between the two main characters. We’re looking forward to finding out more next week!
Science
In science, the children worked in pairs to classify different rocks using a flow diagram. They used their observations and thought of questions you can only answer with yes or no. They then used this to carefully follow the flow chart to identify and sort the rocks. The children enjoyed working together and explaining their scientific thinking.
School council
It’s that time again to choose our new School Council representatives! Children who would like to stand can prepare a short speech or presentation to share why they would make a great school councillor. We are looking forward to hearing their fantastic ideas and seeing everyone shine! Children can present their ideas on Tuesday 16th September.
