Ice Trap!

Welcome back to a new half term in Year 3! It’s been a great first week back, with the children showing lots of enthusiasm for our new topics, especially our new class texts, ‘Ice Trap!’ and ‘Shackleton’s Journey’.

We started the week by looking at the following job advert:

Most of us were not too keen to apply for the job, but some children were tempted by the chance for an adventure and to explore new places. The children got into role and wrote letters of application, then wrote their own interview questions and took turns to interview each other to see who would get the job. Some children took this role very seriously!

Maths

In maths, we have moved onto our new unit: length and perimeter. This week we have been measuring in metres, centimetres and millimetres. Can you measure any objects in mm, cm or m at home?

Music

The children have finished their drumming units and we have a new Charanga unit for this half term. We are very excited to be singing Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and learning some glockenspiel parts to go with it. Here is a video of 3SB learning one of the glockenspiel parts.

P.E

In P.E this half term, 3SB be will doing OAA (outdoor adventurous activities) and 3B will be doing netball. The children will then take part in either bouldering, tag rugby or skipping. We had to make a few changes this week due to the wet weather, but here are some photos of the skipping group.

Geography

In geography, we are learning all about climate. Can you remember the difference between weather and climate? Explore this page if you need a reminder!

Well done to this week’s special mentions, Harry, Grace, Mustafa, Wilfred and Rory. Also congratulations to Ayra for being one of the winners of the book fair competition. Remember you can still enter our World Book Day competition to design a cool character. See this letter for details.
