Reception News – 15.5.26

Phonics

This week we have been learning about CCCVC words (Consonant-Consonant- Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) they ususally start with the letter blends such as str, scr, spr or thr. We have looked at words such as street, three, splash, spring.

We are continuing to learn our hard to read and spell words such as was, be, come, there, children. Please keep practicing these at home using the flashcards we have sent home previously.

The children have done some lovely writing about their trip to Harlow Carr, some great sounding out and handwriting.

Maths

This week the children have explored how 10 can be composed. They have also developed a sense of the ‘ten-ness of 10’ by making their own collections of 10 objects. They have used counters to find ways of making number bonds to 10 for example, 8 and 2 makes 10.

Understanding the World – People, Culture and Communities

This week we have continued our work on maps. We have looked at maps of our homes and where our school is located on Cote Lane. Now we have looked at Farsley Town Street and what we can see. What do the different shops and food outlets sell? Is it a busy road? Is it the same or different to Cote Lane? The children have then created their own map of Farsley Town Street.

Expressive Arts and Design

In music we are learning 2 new songs ‘Shake and Stop’ and ‘What a Star’. The children are practicing playing a variety different instruments and recognising when they need to stop playing.

PE

We have continued our unit on cooperation this week. The children warmed up like different Mr Men – can you spot Mr Tall and Mr Small? – and then they worked as teams to turn over cones faster than the other team. The children had great fun and did very well moving a hoola hoop along our circle while everybody was holding hands and did not let go.

Stockeld Park

We have our last school trip for this academic year coming up. It is a new trip which the children last year thoroughly enjoyed. RPT will go on Monday 15th June and RKT will go on Tuesday 23rd June. Letters for this trip will be out soon.

Everything else…

Have a lovely weekend
