Monsters and Myths

Happy Friday,

English

This week in English, the children have been unleashing their creativity by planning and writing their very own Ancient Greek myths! They have brought some incredible heroes and formidable monsters to life as the main characters in their epic tales. Throughout their writing, we’ve been focusing on using a wide range of conjunctions, incorporating fronted adverbials, and adding engaging dialogue to help advance the plot. We can’t wait to finish reading all of these imaginative stories!

Maths Update

Both classes completed their unit on addition and subtraction this week and are now diving into multiplication and division! Since some of the concepts we’ve covered over the last couple of weeks can be a bit tricky—especially multi-step word problems and finding missing numbers—we will be revisiting them regularly to build confidence.

To support learning at home, here is a helpful video on tackling missing number problems:

Watch the Missing Numbers Video.

Next week, we’ll be exploring factors and common factors. If you’d like to get a head start or review together, check out this short video:

Other activities

5B wrapped up their Ancient Greek Day activities by adding fantastic painted designs to the clay pots they crafted earlier. You can view photos of their wonderful creations in our photo gallery here.

Year 5 Performance Auditions

We had a fantastic time watching the auditions for our upcoming Year 5 performance of Aladdin during lunchtime today! The children put on some truly outstanding recitals, which means we now have the very tough task of making final casting decisions.

Parents’ Evening

We are really looking forward to seeing you all at Parents’ Evening next week! Ten minutes goes by very quickly, so if you feel we need more time to discuss your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to ask to arrange a follow-up meeting.

Have a wonderful and restful weekend!
