Year 5 this week and next!

Year 5 this week and next!

Good afternoon all,

This week the children in 5KH have created an excellent performance in music with Ms Howells.

We have finished our unit of work on fractions.

Here are some videos if the children would like to recap ready to do their homework.

In Science the children enjoyed, planning how to, and then actually separating a mixture of sand, sugar, paperclips, flour, plastic, raisins, rice and lentils. We used seives, colanders, water, fabric and filter paper to complete this investigation. It was very hard to separate the rice and the lentils! However, children enjoyed learning about dissolving and filtration.

Just a reminder that it is World Book Day on Thursday next week. Children can dress up as characters or themes from books or just come in some comfortable own clothes.

Also to remind yo about our Read Your Own Way competition.

This is very similar to our competition in 2022 when we got 140 entries and so many brilliant videos of children reading some of their favourite books. (It is lovely to look at those entries again, seeing the children 3 years ago.)

If your child would like to enter the competition, find a book or extract that they would like to read aloud for a minute or two. Get the children to practise with expression and intonation. You could perhaps ‘stage’ the reading somehow.

The reading can be filmed on a phone or junior children might like to use their Chromebook camera or Screencast facility. (Using a phone is probably the most simple and flexible option unless you want to do something fancy with a background.)

To enter the competition, complete this form and upload your video. The deadline is Tuesday March 4th at 9pm. Max file size 1GB.

We will be completing some fun activities including art work and quizes on Thursday at school. We will also be going over to Year 1 to visit our reading buddies.

Here are some videos.
