A Week of Performances

This week feels as if it has been absolutely jam-packed! As well as doing our usual learning in lessons, the children have been hard at work practising to be part of the chorus of the Christmas production – a lot to squeeze in to one week!

English

This week, we have been really focused on our Poetry Slam entries. After spending some time unpicking the poems together, both classes began to work on their own performances of the poem ‘Granny’s Sugarcake’ by John Lyons. This poem is really interesting because it is written in a way that reflects the outhor’s own way of speaking. Both classes had some really unique takes and everyone did spectacularly well with their performances.

Maths

In maths, we have been doing some interesting work on statistics, looking at and interpreting a range of different graphs. We started by looking at pictographs and bar charts, but also spent some time exploring the uses of line graphs. The children did really well with this work and were able to both ask and answer a variety of different questions about each of the graphs. This also tied in really well with our computing work on spreadsheets, where we included both line and bar graphs to represent our data.

Music

While in our main music sessions we have been hard at work practising for the Christmas show (sorry, no spoilers here), in PPA the children have been hard at work learning some christmas songs on the Boomwhackers. Can you guess what they are playing?

General News

This week, spelling homework has been sent home in books and both classes have some maths work set on Mathletics to complete. This is due in on Wednesday 18th December. As always, if the children find any of this work tricky to complete, they are more than welcome to ask for additional support on either Monday or Tuesday.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
