Reception News – 2.5.25

Phonics

This week we have continued to revise our phase 3 phonemes. We have had a go at writing the words sweets, hot, snail and twins. We also practised saying and writing the sentence We were hot. The children are trying hard to remember to leave finger spaces between words.

Maths

The children have continued to develop their subitising skills (seeing the quantity without counting) in increasingly complex arrangements. A key focus this week was to use the children’s developing understanding of doubles to support their subitising skills. By moving away from counting for sets that can be subitised, the children will develop their abstract understanding of number, which will help to support future calculation strategies. They have also been using 10s frames and had fun playing various games.

Understanding of the World

We have continued our learning about our local area. The children have looked at their own home, school and Cote Lane. This week we visited Farsley Town Street. The children looked at the different buildings/shops/restaurants. They all decided it was a busy place as there was a lot of traffic and people.

Mystery Fruit!

This week, the children learnt where passion fruit comes from. They enjoyed eating it!

Secret Reader

Remember, it isn’t too late to sign up to be a Secret Reader. Please speak to us or email to arrange a day. The children love having someone new read a story to them. Thank you to this week’s Secret Reader.

Everything Else…

Harlow Carr

Don’t forget we are visiting Harlow Carr next week, RGK are visiting on Tuesday 6th May (first day back to school) and RP on Thursday 8th May. The children will need to wear their school uniform and bring a labelled packed lunch. The weather forecast is looking dry. Please make sure your child has suncream applied and a hat just in case the sun comes out!

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
