Phonics

This week, we began our phonics sessions. We have been using our “robot arms” and “blending hands” to blend phonemes (the sounds of letters) and form recognisable words. We have also been using our “listening ears” to identify different sounds in our environment.

Maths

During our maths sessions this week, we focused on the words “compare,” “fewer,” and “fewest” and explored these concepts. We started with two plates of raisins and compared them. The children helped show “fewer” raisins by eating some. We kept comparing throughout to see which plate had the “fewest” raisins.

Everything else

What a busy week we’ve had! This week, we created drawings of ourselves for our classroom lockers and made a beekeeper scarecrow in preparation for next week’s Scarecrow Hunt. The adults have been really impressed with the children’s artistic skills! We also used tap sticks to count the syllables in our names and to accompany our singing sessions. We read “Autumn” and discussed the different seasons, explored the book “Friends” to think about how we can all be good friends, and read “All About My Family” to talk about everyone’s family. We also enjoyed Dough Disco, engaged in some messy play, and had a lot of fun exploring our classroom and the school grounds!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Nursery Team
