Year 2 News 27.06.25

English

This week we have created some super diamante poems about minibeasts. We started the week collecting lots of nouns, verbs and adjectives about different minibeasts. We then used these to follow the diamante poem structure (below). We loved the children’s finished poems.

Spelling

This week we have focussed on another spelling of the ‘l’ sound at the end of words having already learned le, el and al. We have looked at words ending ‘il’ such as pencil, pupil, basil and lentil.

Maths

We have now finished our work on time. This has been quite a tricky concept for some children, particularly when reading the time in 5 minutes. Next week we will move onto statistics.

Geography

We began the week, using an aerial photo of the school grounds to loate different physical and human features. We practised orientating the map (always keeping north in the right direction).

Sporting Events

Some of the children in Year 2 have been representing school this week in different sporting competitions. We went to Pudsey Olympics on Wednesday and then the skipping competition on Thursday. The children who stayed at school had lots of fun too, doing extra PE and art.
