Year 2 News 1.05.26

English

This week we wrote our stories based on the tiger who came to tea. We had bears coming to breakfast, lions coming for lunch and penguins coming to picnics! The children enjoyed writing their stories and really tried hard to remember all the ideas from their plans. They used lots of great adjectives to describe their character and remembered commas and apostrophes too. Some children even had a go at using speech marks (something we don’t usually teach until year 3!)

Next week we will be writing fact sentences about 1960s artefacts.

Spelling

We have being looking at words ending in y and following rules for adding suffixes. Change the y to i except when adding ing.

Maths

We are doing brilliantly at fractions in Year 2. This week we have learned about thirds as well as finding out what unit fractions and non-unit fractions are.

Science

We have started our unit on plants and today we have been looking at seeds. We found out that not all seeds look the same and that some seeds don’t look like seeds at all! We matched the seeds to their adult plant.

DT

We had a great time making finger puppets this week. We used card to create a cone shape which became the body, then we added features with card, glue and pens.

Here are some links to other finger puppets you could make at home:
