Phonics

In phonics this week we have learnt the phonemes g, o, c and k. Our hard to read and spell words are put, of and is. The children are doing so well to use their magic finger and a pencil to form the new graphemes. This is how we hold our pencil; we use a tripod grip.

These are the rhymes we use to help us form the graphemes for the phonemes we have learnt so far:

Reading and Maths Meeting

Every child should have brought home a letter informing you about our Reading and Maths meeting. The meeting takes place on Wednesday 7th October at 2.30pm (North Hall) and online at 6pm. We really recommend everyone attends one of these meetings. We will talk about our phonics scheme, ELS, how we teach reading, and how you can support your child at home. Home support is crucial for children to become confident and competent readers. We will also discuss how we teach Maths and what it looks like in our classrooms.

Maths

We have been been practicing counting. The children have enjoyed singing some number songs like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive. We also met our friend Gertrude (puppet). She isn’t very good at counting so we have been helping her! We have shown her how to put objects in a line and count them slowly by pointing to each one.

We all enjoyed making our own counting stick!

Understanding the World – RE

This week we have been exploring our local environment. We went for a walk on Cote Lane and looked at all the different features on each of the houses. We saw Monkey Puzzle trees, solar panels and different coloured doors. We talked to the children about how all our homes are different on the inside and outside. It was super to hear how many children could tell us where they lived. We used Google Earth to see some of our homes. We also explored the school grounds and looked if we could spot any signs. The children were great sign spotters and we found lots of them on trees showing which families had donated them. RPT went on the first part of their walk on Monday. As we had learned the phoneme g in the morning, we thought it would be a great idea to go and see the goats as part of our walk!

Library Day

Please remember that our library day has moved to a Thursday. Please make sure that you return your child’s library book on a Thursday.

Everything else…

Have a super weekend,

The Reception Team
