Week ending 22.3.24 Year 5

Week ending 22.3.24 Year 5

We have had another great week in year 5. In English the children have enjoyed writing some fantastic stories about children being lost in the Amazon, based on the Explorer by Katherine Rundell, which we have been reading in class. English homework in based on the Year 5/6 or Year 3/4 spellings.

In Maths we have been having an introduction to percentages and learning about how they correspond to decimals and fractions. We have sent some paper homework home based on this to be completed by next Wednesday please.

The children enjoyed learning about deforestation in Geography and have thoroughly enjoyed debating the issue. When debating, the children each took a card which had a different job or role on it such as Brazilian President, indigenous tribal leader, beef farmer, logger, conservationist or global scientist. They then learnt about the different reasons for and against deforestation. During the debates, it was great to see the children’s persuasion skills and the audience voted differently depending on how well the arguements were explained to them.

Next week is parents evening and we are pleased to see that almost everyone has registered for a meeting. Meetings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

We hope you enjoy the weekend,

Many thanks

The Year 5 team
