Year 1 News – 11.9.26

It has been a busy week of fun and learning in Year 1!

Phonics

We have reviewed the phonemes that the children learned in Reception. The children also enjoyed whole-class paired reading. They all tried really hard.

English

In our English lessons, we have been talking about our families. The children have all drawn a picture of who lives in their house and labelled them.

Handwriting

In Year 1, the children are introduced to cursive letter formation. This week, we practised writing c, a, and d. These letters belong to the Curly Caterpillar family.

We will explain cursive writing at our meeting on Wednesday 30th September.

Maths

We have been doing lots of counting and sorting of objects in maths. The children are enjoying working in their maths books.

History

In history, we discussed how we have changed since we were babies. We enjoyed looking at our photographs and discussing how we have changed.

Art

The children had fun creating rabbits and hedgehogs to display in our rooms. They are very creative!

They also drew a self-portrait in their sketchbooks.

PPA Time

On Thursday afternoons, the children rotate through four activities. This half term, they will be doing the following lessons:

DT – Grating and peeling skills with Mrs Maginnis

RE – Which books and stories are important? with Mrs Thornton

Computing – Logging onto a Chromebook with Mrs Jones

Science – Tree walk with Miss Campbell

Homework

Your child will come home with their purple homework book today. This homework is due in on Tuesday 22nd September. Please help your child complete this task at home. Please also hear them read and write a comment in their reading record.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
