Year 2 News 21.11.25

English

We continued with our story Follow the Swallow, and created our own postcards from one of the characters to another. We then looked at some non-fiction writing about swallows and the children developed their sentence skills by using conjunctions. Next week we will be looking at some non-chronological reports.

Spelling

We have been learning different ways for spelling eer/ear/ere this week and also the homophones there, their and they’re.

Phonics/Reading

New to Year 2 this year, we are following Essential Letters and Sounds phonics. We are really seeing the impact on both children’s reading (decoding) and spelling.

Maths

This week we have been subtracting two 2-digit numbers. We have learned that sometimes we need to exchange! You can play this game to practise. Use TU-TU (tens and ones)

Polar Regions

This week we packed our suitcase ready for a trip to Antarctica. Having watch clips and looked at photographs of Antarctica, children decided what they would need. Some of the items we packed included; warm coats, waterproof boots, sunglasses, a tent and thermal leggings. We decided we wouldn’t need a swimming costume!

Cooperation

In PE we have been learning about teamwork, winning and loosing. Here are some funny pictures of 2MW playing the furniture game where they had to organise their team into the best beds, sofas and dining tables.
