Year 5 Blog 21.6.24

Good afternoon parents and carers,

We can not believe that the end of Year 5 is suddenly approaching! How has the year gone so quickly and we seem to have an incredibly busy final term.

As you should be aware, both classes are off to visit Malham, 5KH on Wednesday 3rd July, and 5HB on Friday 5th of July. Here is a link to the letter with all the details.

We have sports day coming up on Wednesday 10th July. Mr Hemming has sent you an email with details of this.

We also have the big Science Experiment Competition coming up on Friday 12th July. 5KH have been asked to bring in their Science experiments on next Thursday (27th June) to compete in the in class competition. 5HB can bring theirs on Tuesday 25th or Thursday 27th.

Finally, as part of our French learning on clothes, we will be having a French Fashion show (party) and cafe on Thursday July 19th before the end of term. Children will be able to dress in their own clothes on this day and we will be providing croissants, jus d’orange, pain au chocolate et chocolate chaud for the children to order.

This week we have begun practising a poem which we will be performing to KS2 called The River.

Here are some videos of the children doing their first run through which they dio very confidently.

In Science 5KH have been investigating A sexual reproduction in plants. We took cuttings from a rosemary bush which will hopefully grow and a tomato plant. We discussed and looked at plants that can reproduce A sexually in nature such as potatoes, and strawberry plants which have runners to create a daughter plant.

However, for a lot of the lessons this week the children have been completing their end of year assessments. We have been so impressed by the effort and attitude of all the children when completing their tests. They have really persevered and on the whole done very well. Feedback about progress will of course be given in their reports which will be sent out towards the end of term.

We hope you enjoy a finally sunny weekend!

Mrs Kroon and the Year 5 team.
