Paws and Purses!

It’s the beginning of the final summer term, and the first week back has been jam-packed!

Maths
This week, we started our new unit on time. We learned about Roman Numerals, and children enjoyed reviewing their understanding of hours and half-hours. They learned about the different values of Roman Numerals and used this to work out different times and to write them. Children moved on to word problems and used their understanding to answer a range of questions.

English
We have an exciting new text all about a Mesopotamian blue, Varjak Paw! Children enjoyed making predictions about the text during our guided reading lesson before moving on to learn more about Varjak and his family, who currently live in the Contessa’s home. Children enjoyed drawing and labelling Varjak and writing down key people in the family tree. Elder Paw is the oldest and held a family council after strange cats and a gentleman came into the house. Who were they? We will find out more next week!

DT
It’s been a very busy end of the week for both classes, who have had lots of fun sewing Roman purses! Our DT project began with children discussing the purpose of different purses and wallets and who and why people use them. They then labelled an example of a Roman purse and then went on to design their own. Children practised both running and over-stitching before moving on to creating their purse. It was challenging, as they had to sew through multiple layers of fabric and make sure the stitches were close enough so nothing fell out. It was lots of fun, and they’ve done a brilliant job! Some will be taking their purses home next week after adding string.

3B & The Royal Armouries
This week, 3B were very excited to visit the Royal Armouries and thankfully missed the rain on the way there and the way back! They took part in a Roman workshop and a storytelling session all about a Celtic Queen. We won’t be posting any pictures until 3BK have been on their visit, so we don’t spoil it for them! 3BK have lots to look forward to!
