Bereavement and Loss

Bereavement and Loss

On this page, we hope to signpost you to organisations and sources of support if you and your family have had a death in the family

1 in 29 5-16 year olds has been bereaved of a parent or sibling. That is one child in every average class.

Three charities that specifically support children and families who are bereaved are:

Winston

http://winstonswish.org

http://janetomlinsonappeal.com/our-work/owls-bereavement

These websites offer lots of videos, leaflets and ideas to support children and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. They also have links to helplines.

It can be helpful for the class teacher to know if there has been a death in the family so that they can offer support to the child and be aware of any changes in behaviour. Our Pastoral Team can also be available to support children and families and signpost them on to other support services. We will also be able to lend you story books that support children after the death of a family member or pet.
