Hyde Park Picture House Trip

The highlight of the week was our outing to ‘the pictures’. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching The Sword in the Stone from 1963. Here are some amazing photos taken by the professional photographer:

Here are ours!

English

In English this week, we have been thinking about what we might put in a 2026 time capsule. We thought about the modern gadgets we have and how we would explain what they are and what they are used for to the people of the future. We all created a paragraph to explain what a mobile phone, laptop or smart speaker is. The children wrote fantastic sentences using conjunctions (because, so, that, when) and used lots of topic vocabulary to explain the different parts and features. They certainly know a lot about modern technology!

Spellings

This week we have been spelling words with the suffixes -ment and -ness. We have also revised some homophones.

Maths

In maths we have started to learn all about time. In Year 2, we look at telling the time on an analogue clock. We have learned o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Please practise this at home if you have time!

Science

We have continued talking about germination and were amazed by what we saw had happened to our sunflower seeds in their window greenhouses. We concluded that seeds don’t need soil to germinate.

We then decided to find out if seeds need water and light to germinate. We set up two experiments. The first was comparing water and no water, but keeping light and warmth the same. The second was giving both water but putting one in a dark place and another in the light. We will monitor our experiments to see what happens!

History

We have started to learn about the moon landing in our history lessons. We started by looking at the history of flight, before looking at some different sources of evidence to find out more about the moon landings. We will continue this learning in both history and English next week.
