Maths
This week, we have been learning all about shapes. Year 3 recapped their understanding of right, acute and obtuse angles. Children found parallel and perpendicular lines a bit tricky, and we spent some more time identifying them. Children enjoyed spending the rest of the week identifying 2D and 3D shapes. We will be continuing with this next week. Timestables has been another focus for Year 3 this week. Children should be using TT Rockstar to support their recall.
English
It’s been a busy week of writing and reading. We now know more about Varjak and have met some of the new cats. Will we meet Sally Bones next week? 3BK have finished off their reports comparing street cats and domestic cats. Both classes have enjoyed reading a selection of poems, including Kenning poems. Children made good attempts to guess the different animals and researching an animal of their choice. Children then went onto write poems about characters from our class text, Varjak Paw, and about the animals that they researched.
History
This week, Year 3 loved learning more about the Romans, the changes they made in Britain, and the impact they had. They were shocked to learn about Roman roads and that some still exist today! Children created beautiful spreads sharing what they have learned and the impact they think it had on Britain.

Sports Day
KS2 Sports day – Wednesday 8th July.
Children should come to school in their PE kit on this day (a t-shirt, black shorts or leggings, and suitable footwear). Children should wear their team colours if possible: red, blue, green or yellow. If they don’t have anything in their team colour, that’s okay!
Year 3 – 6 children will have their races from 1:10 pm-3:15 pm
Science Superstars Final
Friday 10th July – please ensure children are prepared and bring in their equipment ahead of time. We’re super excited to them performing their experiments again!
Summer Reading Challenge
The libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge begins on Saturday, 4th July, and we would like children from our school to take part! Children can read anything they like – stories, poetry, fact books, graphic novels or listen to audiobooks – it’s up to them! There will be more information about this in the next few weeks.
