They have been chronically under-utilised for over a year, but finally our fleet of three minibuses have warm tyres as trips and residentials have restarted and our broader curriculum really comes to life again. This week, all of Y1 have been to Rodley Nature Reserve, and Year 2 have been to Skelton Grange. Next week, Year 5 go up to Ribblehead for their residential and, in a couple of weeks, Year 6 are off to How Stean Gorge. Full relaxation of restrictions has been delayed, which probably means that we can’t have a conventional sports day or leavers’ show, but children’s general experience of schooling remains rich.
This week we had our termly full governors’ meeting. The governors do a very good job as the school’s critical friends: providing challenge and support in equal measure, ensuring accountability and bringing their considerable professional and other experience to our debates about the school. Our new chair, Ruth Fain, is doing a great job and I am always grateful to these generous volunteers who do so much for the school and our children.
Finally, this week has seen the PTA sponsored event the ‘Mountain Challenge’. Children and families have been recording walks, runs, rides and scoots over nine days and most year groups have already exceeded or have almost reached their collective targets. We are grateful for everyone’s efforts and for any sponsorship money that follows – one child in Y1 has reportedly raised over £200 on their own!
