5B residential – Day 2

These are just a few of the views from today.
We started off with breakfast at 8am, then quickly got ready for the morning’s activities. One group headed off to Gisburn Forest for cycling, while the other group went to Upper Long Churn cave near Selside.
The weather at the forest was cool and cloudy but dry. This made for ideal conditions as long as gloves were worn. The caving group changed into their waterproof suits before their trip under ground. After completing the various challenges, they headed back to the lodge for lunch, then met up with Mr Hemming and the morning cyclists in Settle to swap activities. One particular caving challenge involved crawling snakelike behind a waterfall.

Tomorrow morning we will be up early then out for a walk along a dry river bed so we can see the evidence of erosion and deposition that has taken place. After lunch at the lodge, we will be setting off back to school, to arrive at approximately 2:30 pm.
The children have been absolutely amazing this week. We are all extremely proud of the attitude, effort and resilience they have shown this week. There have been some challenges everyone has faced such as the hot and dry weather, but also many individual challenges. Perhaps the biggest for a lot was being away from home. Being with good friends has certainly helped.
