Orchard Blog 23/10/26

Our Maths focus this week has been all about addition and subtraction. To make sure everyone was learning at the right pace, we split into groups to master our numbers. Some children worked hard on adding and taking away with numbers up to 5. Other children challenged themselves with addition and subtraction up to 10. We used lots of hands-on resources and visual tools to help us count on and count back confidently!

In English, we have been exploring the wonderful world of adjectives! The children learnt that an adjective is a “describing word” used to tell us more about a noun. To help us build descriptive sentences, we used picture cards of different nouns alongside colourful visuals of adjectives. The children did a brilliant job pairing them up to create some amazing, descriptive sentences. Alongside this, the children also practised their handwriting!

In our Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, we focused on the value of being kind. We read the beautiful story of The Rainbow Fish, which helped us understand how sharing and thinking of others can make everyone happy. The children had some lovely reflections on how they can show kindness to their friends in class every day.

Creativity was running high in DT as we prepared for our upcoming superhero adventure! The children have been busy planning and making their very own moving backgrounds for the legendary characters Supertato and the Evil Pea! It took a lot of careful designing, but the backgrounds look absolutely fantastic and are ready for some serious vegetable action.

The absolute highlight of our week was our spectacular music show! The children did excellent playing the xylophone while some played the maracas, alongside beautiful singing performances for their adults. They showed immense bravery performing on stage. Thank you so much to everyone who came along to watch—the children were so proud to share their hard work with you!

The Orchard team hope all the children have a lovely half term! Have a wonderful, restful break, and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for more learning after the holidays.
