Headteacher blog 26th June 2026
Stating the obvious, it has probably been the hottest June week ever at school. It has been challenging and we have had to postpone or cancel some planned events and trips but, overall, it has still been a good week. It is hard to imagine working in the temperatures ‘down south’ consistently in the mid-30s. We only have three air-conditioned classrooms and no realistic likelihood of expanding that. We then had the brief storm before school on Friday that flooded some toilets and disrupted various electrical systems.
This week, the advert for a new headteacher for the school was published. I am intending to retire at Christmas and the process has begun to find a new head teacher for Farfield to take us forward. It will be a long process that won’t conclude until the end of September but it will be a great job for the right person.
On Monday we got the results of the Multiplication Times Tables Check (MTC) that Y4 sat at the start of the month. Their scores were much improved on last year’s – well done! Times tables are an important skill for future success with maths. End-of-year assessments have been carried out in many year groups this week: hopefully morning sittings mean that results shouldn’t be adversely affected by the weather.
Next week Year 6 are off to How Stean Gorge for their exciting residential and on the Saturday we have our annual Camp-Over. Happy days!
