First week

First week

For those without older children, welcome to Year 5. For those who have, you will know what a great year this will be. Already this week, we have had questions about the residential and what it will be like, where they will be sleeping and if it will be sunny!

We are happy to say that everyone has settled in well to their new classes and we are loving getting to know all the children.

Maths

We started the week by looking at Roman numerals. Below is a video that helps explain the system and how it is used.

English

Capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks are a “must know” in Year 5 and so we revised their use, along with the word classes of nouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions. Our class novel is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Next week we will be reading some of the book and doing work based on it.

Music

Livin’ on a Prayer is our song for this half term. Today we introduced it and the classes had a go at singing along (complete with air guitar and big hair shaking).

We will post the final performance video at the end of the half term, but until then… something to sing along to.

Have a lovely weekend.
