Invertebrates and French Food (don’t worry, no snails were eaten)!
French
This half term, we have been exploring how to ask for different foods and drinks in French. The children got so good at it that we decided to put our skills to the test by opening up a French Cafe in the studio. In order to recieve any food or drinks however, the children had to politely place their order using the words and phrases they had learnt. The children in both classes seemed to thoroughly enjoy this experience (though unfortunately we were only able to get pictures of 4SL).
Science
Over the last two weeks, the children have been exploring some of the classes of invertebrates. After identifying the key characteristics of each class, the children drew out an example in their books to label, similarly to how we did our vertebrates work a few weks back. However, to make it a little more interesting, we took our exploration out into the school grounds to see what kinds of invertebrates we could find. Using our homemade pooters, the children were able to safely collect a variety of different invertebrates (some children were more keen on the idea than others!) and brought them back into the classroom. The children then used magnifying glasses to draw out their new friend as accurately as possible, looking carefully at any key features, shapes or patterns they might have. And don’t worry – once we were finished with our drawings, all invertebrates were carefully released back where they were found!
Other Notices
This year, we will be running our Science Superstars competition again. If the last event is anything to go by, it should be a fantastic opportunity for lots of great science! Though the auditions will not be taking place until the end of June, we thought it might be worth giving children plenty of time to decide if they want to take part and what they might do for it.
