Year 4 News – 2.10.26

Maths

We are coming up to the end of our unit on place value, and this week we have been busy rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1,000. We have used the rhyme ‘0 to 4 hit the floor, 5 to 9 climb the vine’ to help us decide whether to round up or down. The childen have worked hard to understand this tricky concept.

English

There has been some fantastic writing this week in English! The children have been working carefully to follow their plans to write their explanation texts about the fireworks they designed. Our main focuses have been on using paragraphs accurately, using fronted adverbials and using causal conjunctions. Next week we will be editing, revising and publishing our work. We are looking forward to sharing some of our finished texts with you!

French

This half term we have been learning how to present ourselves in our unit ‘Je me présente’. We can greet someone, tell them how we are feeling, what our name is, how old we are and where we live. We are also growing in confidence when asking questions to find out about someone else. Here are some of us practising having a conversation with our partner – all in French!

Homework

Children have spelling and times tables homework to complete. Please also support your child to use TT Rockstars frequently to practise their times tables and sign your child’s reading record to show that they have read five times each week.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the PTA’s Sweet Pot fundraising challenge. 4SL were very excited to be runners up and awarded with a £25 voucher to spend on things for our class. We hope to buy some new wet play games and we will speak to the children next week to get their ideas about things they might like.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
