Half term is here!

Maths
In Maths, we have continued to explore adding 1s across multiples of 10 and 100. The children have been developing their understanding of how numbers change when crossing different columns and practising different strategies to help them calculate accurately. We have also used number bonds to support our calculations, helping us to recognise number patterns and apply our knowledge of place value.

English
This week, we finished writing our alternative endings to the Stone Age Boy. The children explored imaginative new settings, using descriptive language and fronted adverbials to bring their ideas to life. We then moved on to using conjunctions to show cause and effect. The children looked at four real examples of Stone Age cave paintings and explained their ideas.

RE
It has been an exciting and engaging couple of days for Year 3 as part of our RE unit! This week, we visited a synagogue, where we explored the different symbols found within the place of worship and learned more about important aspects of Jewish life. The children learned more about Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, and the significance of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.
We then split into small groups and rotated around different activities to deepen our learning. This included exploring the Torah and children learned how to use a yad to follow the text while reading. They also saw Hebrew writing on parchment made from animal skin. Another group learned about Shabbat traditions and the special foods enjoyed during the Shabbat meal. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to bring their learning to life, ask thoughtful questions and develop their understanding of Jewish beliefs and traditions.

Seder plates
The children also enjoyed a fun morning exploring the story of the Exodus. They learned more about the Seder plate and had the opportunity to try different foods, discovering how each one helps to remember important parts of the story and its significance. To finish, the children loved creating their own freedom banners, using their creativity to express what freedom means to them.

Homework
This week, we have set no homework, but we would like the children to practise recalling their times tables throughout the week.

Special mentions
3B – Zakariya, Eva, Kyla & Angus
3J – Jodie, Aidan & Inaayah

Class Dojo
3B – Mika’il
3J – Ellis

Footwear
With the weather changing, we would like all children to have a pair of indoor shoes to change into. From next half term, access to the increasingly muddy fields at playtimes will be limited to those wearing wellies, football boots or ‘proper’ walking boots. This rule will remain throughout the winter.

It’s been a busy and exciting half term as the children have settled into Year 3 and have had lots of new learning experiences. We hope everyone enjoys a restful half term break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back, refreshed and ready for another half term of learning!

This week was also Miss Jones’ final week before she begins her maternity leave. We wish her all the best as she embarks on a exciting new chapter, and we look forward to hearing her lovely news!

Have a lovely break.
The Year 3 Team
