We have had a lovely sunny week and Years 1 and 3 have had super days out at Rodley Nature Reserve and Harlow Carr Gardens respectively. Rodley Nature Reserve really is a local hidden jewel, whilst the gardens at Harlow Carr are nationally significant and are stunning in May.
On Wednesday, our U11 football team competed in the West Leeds finals and finished top of their mini-league without conceding a goal. Their semi final was nil-nil after extra time and they lost narrowly on penalties. The boys should be proud of their efforts and this was a very marginal result.
Over the last week, we have been interviewing for some new teachers for Farfield and it is interesting to see how different candidates approach the recruitment process. I am always keen to help new teachers with their first step on the career ladder and we have met some enthusiastic, bright and engaging young colleagues whom I am sure will go on to have great futures in the profession. Teaching is hard work, and can be tough, but it is also a hugely rewarding and worthwhile way to earn a living.
Next week, Year 6 are doing their SATs. We wish all the children (and staff) the best of luck. They have worked hard and will all be able to show some good progress regardless of whether they meet the expected standard. Hopefully, there will be some reform of these tests in the near future as they are unnecessarily pressurised and exert an unreasonable influence on the curriculum. Basic skills are important, but there is more to life than literacy and numeracy.
