Good afternoon parents and carers,

We have had another busy week in Year 5.

In maths we have been workingon Statistics. The children have impressed me with their enthusiasm and understanding in this topic. We have worked on interpreting information from line graphs and tables.

For homework children need to complete 2 assigned Mathletics activities on Statistics.

In English the children have been learning about a variety of Grammar in preparation for writing a diary from the point of view of Bilbo Bagins.

We have learnt:

The past perfect tense

In science we investigated dissolving. The children devised experiments to see what variables would affect how quickly salt dissolved in water. The children discovered that the warmer the water, or the faster we stir it increases the speed of dissolving.

Over the next few weeks, all Year 5 children will be having some opportunities to practice cycling with a British Cycling instructor. 5KH will be going Thursday and Friday morning in two separate groups. 5HB will be going Thursday and Friday afternoon in two separate groups. We will let you know which day your child is cycling on Monday next week.

The following week we will be going , with the same instructor, to Otley Chevin to practice off road riding in preparation for our residential. 5KH will be going on Tuesday 7th May and 5HB on Friday 10th May.

We hope you enjoy your weekend,

Mrs Kroon and the Year 5 team.
