Diaries, Rivers and Cycling
Good afternoon. Last week was as packed as always and the final week of the half term will be no different.
English
We completed writing the first draft of our diary extract based on The Hobbit and this week we will be looking to edit and improve one or more of the paragraphs. One of our grammar focuses this term is using modal verbs. These are helper verbs that combine with main verbs to express possibilty and include – can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will and would. Generally, the writing has been of a good standard but ensuring that the modal verbs are used will improve all the writing. We hope to have photos of a selection of writing in next week’s blog.
Maths
Our unit on shape has come to an end (or will be shortly). Next week, both class will be starting on the next unit – Position and Direction. As always, this will build on previous knowledge but if you would like to see the first lesson, there is a video below.
Geography
In our Geography lesson, we looked at the features of a river. The link below give a great summary of our lesson.

When we are on residential, we will be in the upper course of the River Ribble (along with other rivers and streams) and we will be able to talk about and compare this with our location.
Cycling
Next Tuesday, 5B will be going to Otley Chevin for their final cycle training before residential. 5K at the moments seem be luckier with the weather forecast as they are going on Thursday. The classes will be split into two groups, with one cycling before lunch and the other group after. These will both be in normal school time. Children do not need to bring their bikes, although they may bring their helmets if they have one. (All bikes and helmets will be provided). They should come to school in PE kit with footwear suitable for cycling in a forest. Coats should be available and gloves are useful to keep hands warm and also to prevent possible scratches from bushes along the routes.
Music
We will be recording our final version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air next week. Shades, baseball caps and satin tracksuits are welcome for the performances!
See you all next week.
Mr Beevers and Mrs Kroon
