All the children have been very excited about the end-of-year production, creating alarmed lunch boxes and getting ready for the transition from primary school to high school.
Art competition – A note from Mrs Kenvyn
All children in KS2 have been invited to take part in an optional art competition to give them the opportunity to discover their inner artists! The theme of the competition is ‘Farsley through my eyes’. This means that their artwork should link to Farsley in some way, whether it’s their street, significant buildings, Sunnybank Mills, the history of Farsley, or even a happy memory. Anything goes, as long as they can explain the link! The children can create any style of artwork they wish, such as sculpture, collage, painting or even photography! The deadline for entries is Monday 29th June with winners announced on Friday 3rd July in Special Mention assembly. Entries should be labelled with the child’s name and class and given to Mrs Kenvyn. We are so excited to see what amazing creations the children can come up with!
History
This week the children in Y6 have been filling out censuses showing what jobs people in the late 1800s did. Because the handwriting in the original census was illegible (it was, quite frankly, tragic), we had an electronic version. We found that there was a huge difference between the 2 genders, with most women not working at all! It was very interesting and we worked hard to categorise the spreadsheet.
Science / DT
This week the children in Year 6 have been making alarmed lunch boxes. Not all of the children managed to get their alarms to work, although this was mainly because of the lack of the buzzers working. This is one of our last D.T topics and the class really loved it. In science, we learned about electricity, simple circuits and complicated circuits. There were some amazing designs and themes for our boxes, including old-style lunch boxes, under-the-sea cherries and many more.
Transition / PSHE
This week we have been getting prepared for secondary school in PSHE. We are all getting very excited to go try new things and make new friends. We were tasked with making a coat of arms about ourselves to show our new friends who we are. Although all of us will be very sad to go as we have had an amazing time here, it will be a wonderful new experience for us all. We will carry on with our topic on the transition to secondary for the rest of this term.
End of year performance
This week we have all focused on performing our Cinderella Rockerfella end-of-year performance. Most of us are now confident to do our scenes scriptless. Also, we have been practicing all the songs and our teachers are very proud of us! We would like to remind all children to practice their lines and their songs at home so you parents can have the best experience. Furthermore, Mrs Elam has been working very hard to put together costumes for all the actors performing, so a very big thank you to her and all the parents who help their child with their lines.
