The Gingerbread Man

We started the week by enjoying the traditional tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We used the reading dogs to answer some questions about the text.

We enjoyed the story so much that we decided to bake our very own gingerbread men!

We baked an extra special class gingerbread man, but when we returned to school on Tuesday he had disappeared! We decided to make some missing posters and put them up around school to see if anyone had seen him.

On Thursday, we received a postcard from the Gingerbread Man. He had managed to make it to Bolton Abbey and the Yorkshire Dales. On Friday, he was exploring Scarborough!

Phonics

We are continuing to revise all the phonemes we have learnt since the start of Reception. Please keep practising them all at home. The videos show how to pronounce each phoneme correctly.

Maths

This week, we have focused on capacity and volume. The children have lots of fun pouring and measuring water. Some of them got a bit wet!

Geography

We started the lesson by recapping the 7 continents. Can your child name all 7 continents? We then learnt that over 70% of the Earth is covered by water and that this water is divided into 5 parts. We call these the 5 oceans. We named and located the 5 oceans on a world map.

We have enjoyed singing this song.

Science

In science, we discussed the enquiry question ‘What plants can we find around our school?’. We looked at the differences between wild and garden plants and then had a look around our school grounds to see if we could spot any. When we returned to class, we all chose a garden plant to draw.

Computing

This week, the children began creating their own animated story using Purple Mash. We were very impressed with their stories. They can continue them at home. Their login details are in their reading records.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday.
