Year 2 News 25.04.25

Welcome back Year 2. It has been a busy few days and children have come back after the holidays with lots of enthusiasm for learning. Please read the April Newsletter for information about what is happening in Year 2 this half term.

English

The week we read the story ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’. The children have sequenced pictures from the story onto a story mountain to retell the story. We then looked at the tiger character in more detail before starting to plan our own animal character for our own stories next week.

Spelling

This week we have looked at words ending le and el. We talked about strategies that may help us remember these such as putting them in rhyming groups e.g. tunnel/funnel, towel/trowel/vowel, wiggle/jiggle. Please complete the spelling homework activity and hand it in on Monday.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about mass. The children have looked at comparing the mass of objects using balance scales. We have then looked at measuring in grams and kilograms. We have been looking carefully at the scale to work out the mass accurately.

Try the game below or use some dial scales at home to measure some objects for practice!

History

this week we have looked at how to use a timeline in history and have discussed the terms ‘living memory’ and ‘beyond living memory’. We looked at how to place events on a timeline.

Science

2BW have looked at parts of a plant in Science. We labelled the different parts and explained the function of each part. We are looking forward to investigating seeds in the next few weeks and doing some planting!

DT

2LA have looked at puppets in DT this week. We found out what a puppet is and looked at some different types. We then drew, labelled and compared some puppets. We are looking forward to designing and making our own puppets in the next few weeks!
