Happy Eid to all our Muslim families!

This week our Y1 children have been doing their statutory phonics assessments and they have been doing really well. Thank you to all the staff for their collective efforts and to families who have clearly been practising at home. Well done!

On Tuesday we welcomed all our new Reception children and their parents to school for an open evening. We have a terrifically strong team in Foundation Stage and I am always so confident that the children will make a super start to their school lives under their care and guidance.

Yesterday, we had a girls’ rugby team competing at a tournament and after school an U9 football team travelled to Yeadon for a one-off game and won 7-0! This was particularly impressive as most of the team don’t play regularly for our school: terrific strength in depth! Many thanks to Mrs Harding and Mrs Kroon for supporting those events. Today, Mr Cooke is at an area PE conference looking to access even more exciting PE opportunities in the future.

Finally, curriculum development continues with further local links being made that can enhance our offer. Our History lead is working with Sunnybank Mills in the village, and English Heritage, to enhance our teaching and learning around WW1 whilst Ms Howells and up to 20 Y5 and Y6 pupils are working with Artforms and Priesthorpe on a range of musical styles and performance that will culminate soon in a big show at Pudsey Civic Hall. Ofsted said that our curriculum is ‘vibrant, rich and engaging’ and these sorts of initiatives build upon that.
