Year 1 News – 10.7.26

English

We have continued with our work on ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. This week the children designed a basket to keep Mr Grinling’s lunch safe. They had some fantastic ideas, including mustard blasters and secret compartments. The children then wrote some fantastic descriptions of their basket.

Maths

We have continued learning about time. This week, we have focused on the days of the week, months of the year and introduced hours, minutes and seconds.

Science

We had an exciting and informative chicken talk with Mr Harris. We learnt about the features of a chicken and their habitat. The children enjoyed feeding the chickens.

Art

The children have drawn some amazing lighthouses this week.

History

In history, we learnt about Grace Darling. We learnt about who she was and why she was famous. We then created a timeline to show when she was born and when the rescue took place.

Sports Day

We had a brilliant sports day and were very proud of all the children.

Science Superstars

Well done to Elyssia and Thea who were fantastic in the final! Well done to everyone who took part in the class auditions.

Poetry Slam

Please keep practising the poem that we sent home earlier this week. 1GC are doing the Poetry Slam on Monday and 1H will be doing it on Tuesday.

Summer Reading Challenge

The children are very excited about the Summer Reading Challenge. Please sign up at your local library to take part.

Have a lovely weekend.
