Welcome back Year 5

Welcome back Year 5

Hi all,

It’s been a short but busy week in Year 5.

5KH finished off sewing our rainforest animals.

Rivers and Rocks

Our new topic in geography is rivers and rocks and this week we learnt about the three main types of rock: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. We learnt about how each is formed and sorted rocks into the three catergories. We then made each type of rock out of grated white and dark chocolate. First we made layers and then pushed them together to make sedimentary rocks. Next we heated up the chocolate and squashed it in our hands to make metamorphic rock. Finally we dipped the chocolate in hot water to create igneous rock.

We have begun to start thinking about and looking forward to residential. We have sent some paperwork home and thanks to those that have already filled it in and returned it. Ideally we would like it returning by Wednesday next week.

We have some practise cycling sessions booked in over the next few weeks.

5B will be cycling in school on Monday 28th April.

5KH will be cycling in school on Tuesday 29th April.

Please ensure that your child comes in warm PE kit on these dates with cycling gloves if they have any.

We will then move on up to the Chevin to practise some off road skills, 5B on Friday 2nd May and 5KH on Friday 16th May.

Finally, don’t forget that it’s movie night in KS2 next week. The children voted for Despicable Me 3 which will the shown next Tuesday in the hall.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 5 team.
