Year 1 – 25.10.24

English

In English, we learnt the poem ‘Water’ by Shirley Hughes. Both classes did a great job of performing the poem.

We also practised forming the loopy letters j, y, f and k.

Maths

In maths we have been looking at addition. We have used part-whole models to write addition number sentences. We have even written number sentences starting with the answer first.

Phonics

In phonics we finished our consolidation of Phase 3 and practised reading and writing words with all the Phase 3 sounds. We also completed our phonics assessments.

Music

This was our final week of learning our first song in Year 1. The children sang and played the instruments very well. We are very impressed with their final performances.

Geography

In geography we have been looking at the seasons. We learnt that there are four seasons in the year and we are currently in autumn. The children really enjoyed going on a scavenger hunt to find signs of autumn. We definitely found LOTS of leaves!

We discussed what the weather is like in autumn and used our very own weather station and the internet to record what the weather has been like this week.

Computing

In computing we have been looking at privacy and security. We learnt that passwords are used to protect information, accounts and devices. We completed a quiz as a whole class to assess our knowledge. There is also an activity assigned on Purple Mash if your child would like to complete it at home.

PE

1T had their last lesson with Northern Dance this week. They had an amazing time this term and did a great job learning a routine to a song from the Lion King. Can they maybe show you what they’ve learnt?
