Headteacher blog 27/1/23

It has been a busy week at Farfield with school trips and lots of sporting events. The minibuses have been well-used.

Due to some teacher absence, I have done more teaching than usual this week. I always enjoy this and it helps me to see things that can be improved from a class teacher’s perspective. I have mainly been covering a Year 6 class this week and I have been impressed by the hard work of a very large majority of the class. In a sign of the times, a writing lesson led by another colleague covering the class included remote real-time feedback from the off-sick (injured) teacher from their home. The children were using Google Docs on their Chromebooks and the teacher was able to prompt and suggest as they wrote. This shows some of the value of this technology and the commitment of the teacher.

On Thursday evening I had the pleasure of coaching and refereeing our U11 football team in a Falkingham Cup match vs Carr Manor. It was a great game played hard but fairly in difficult muddy conditions. Both teams played some very good football – without a single foul being committed – but it ended 1:1 after extra time. It was a pulsating, exciting game. The tie went to penalties and Finnan was the hero as he pulled off some magnificent saves. Farfield go through to the next round.
