Farsley Farfield Primary School

Year 1 – 09.02.24

Phonics

This week the children have revisited the split digraphs: i_e, o_e, and u_e. The focus words this week were: oh and out. Please continue to practise these at home.

Maths

During our maths sessions, the children have continued to look at addition within 20. The focus this week was doubling. They have worked hard to represent doubles using different resources and to answer questions relating to doubles.

We then moved on to using our knowledge of doubles to work out near doubles.

English

This week started with the children going through a picture frame! We read the story Katie’s Picture Show and then planned our own stories based on a picture. We finished the week by following our plans and writing a story. We had some amazing stories.

Glass workshop

We had a very exciting visitor this week. Twice Fired spent an afternoon with each class. The children designed and created some amazing glass pieces. We can’t wait to see how they look once they have been fired!

Computing

This week the children continued to look at algorithms. The children ordered instructions before following them. It was quite exciting as the instructions helped the children to make toast! They really enjoyed eating it!

1T – Reading Buddies

This week 1T got to meet their reading buddies. Year 5 came to visit the year 1 children and they shared some books.

PPA

This term the children have spent time looking at RE, computing, and art. During the RE sessions, the children looked at special occasions and being thankful. During the computing sessions, they spent some time using the Bee-Bots and creating sequences to make the Bee-Bots move in different directions. For art, the children have looked at Henri Matisse. Due to the shortness of this half-term, the children have not completed all of the sessions. These sessions will continue next half-term.

Have a lovely break and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
