It is the time of year when I do lots of tours for prospective parents looking for places for Reception next year. Parents are fortunate that there are lots and lots of good schools in this area. We all have our own strengths – and weaknesses – and parents obviously need to find the school that best meets their child’s needs. Parents who tour our school always seem impressed with our grounds, the engagement of the children and very wide curriculum opportunities. We look at children’s work in books; they are very impressed with Year 1 and often find it hard to imagine their little three year old attaining such levels in just two years’ time. The children that they see are happy and purposeful. On a tour this week, two children in separate classes spontaneously chose to give the parents a thumbs up and pass on a comment such as ‘Come here, it’s a great school!’ With a smile on her face, the parent retorted with ‘…but it’s the only school you know’ but the point had been made!

As I was writing the recent Curriculum Newsletter, I couldn’t help but notice how many times I mentioned the Friends of Farfield PTA for having bought or contributed to an improvement in school practice. This week, this has been more evident than ever with the delivery of our shiny new wheelchair accessible minibus and imminent start of lessons with Raspberry Pi credit card-sized mini coding computers in Years 5 and 6. I would like to sincerely thank Diane Walton and her team for all their work over many years – you help Farfield to be the innovative and exciting school that it is.
