‘In like a lion, out like a lamb’ is the traditional description of March. This year, the winds came early and we are left with a damp squib. The school fields are a quagmire after so much rain and we are looking forward to the drier weather and the sunshine that is forecast next week.

Nevertheless, it has been a bright start to the half term with a spectacular World Book Day and the opening of our new Early Years play area. We are very grateful to the PTA for part funding this wonderful addition to the school that should last for many years.

World Book Day showcased some great reading aloud by so many of our children in the video competition that we held. This was so successful, and worked so well technically, that we are considering creating a video record of children’s progress in reading as part of the school’s on-going arrangements.

On Tuesday, the school’s senior leadership team attended a conference, in person, for the first time for well over two years – it felt like we were “out, out.” The broad theme was ‘Curriculum’ and this will be our particular focus for the next twelve months. A key issue is how we ensure that the children build upon prior learning and then retain more of the facts that they learn about in the wider curriculum: history, geography, RE etc. These issues will be worked on in the two training days at the end of this month, and as work is covered we will be electronically issuing ‘Knowledge Organisers’ to our older children to support their topic work. Here is an example relating to Anglo Saxons.
