Bikes and parachutes
Science
In Science this week, we have continued to look at forces. Following on from last week’s experiment and our findings about air resistance, we investigated the best design for a parachute. First we made one using a square of plastic (a cut up bin bag), string and maths multi-link cubes. We then changed one variable to find out if it fell quicker or slower.
Bikeability
This week, several groups of children have been out on their bikes in the playground and on the roads around the school, practising their cycling skills. A lot of the children have gained confidence and improved their ability to ride a bike, which has been wonderful to see. During the residential next year, one of our activities will be cycling at Gisburn Forest. Non-riders will be catered for but in order to enjoy the experience to the full, confidence on the bike is ideal. From personal experience the canal is a great place to ride, although local parks or the Civic Hal car park are closer.
Maths
In Maths, we have been looking at equivalent fractions. The rule is, to find an equivalent fraction, you must mulitply or divide both the numerator and denominator by the same number.

What’s the crime, Mr Wolf?
Rehearsals have been going well for the Christmas performance. We have completed a run through of every scene and have been impressed with how many children have learned all or a vast majority of their lines. Continuing to help in this area will enable us to focus on stage direction and acting skills.
