Here are some of the things we have been up to in Year 3 this week!
English
In English this week, we have planned and started to write alternative endings to the story of Stone Age Boy. It has been lots of fun hearing the children’s ideas. Will the boy be chased by a sabre-toothed tiger or hit on the head by a falling stalactite? Will he end up in the Mesozoic Era, the Iron Age or even the future! We have also been practising our use of fronted adverbials. Here are some of our sentences:
Mysteriously, a stripy, spotty tiger leaped in the cave. (Rory)
Waiting for us, there was a sabre-toothed tiger getting ready to POUNCE! (Zayn)
Suddenly, a crash from the cave was coming aggressively towards us. (Leila)
Fortunately, none fell on me, but unfortunately, the broken bits bounced and made towers. (Beatrice)
Unexpectedly, stalactites hung like sharp, pointy icicles. (Amelia)
When you span around, it looked like animals dancing around you. (Murphie)
Maths
In maths we have been adding ones, tens and hundreds to 3-digit numbers. We have been thinking carefully about place value and using precise mathematical language to explain what we are doing. 3B have also been using their number bonds to help them add when crossing tens numbers. Can you quickly recall all the different ways of making 10?
P.E
Unfortunately, it was another wet Wednesday afternoon, but we all still managed an energetic hour of P.E in the hall with Brad. We practised the speed bounce, the shuttle run and the hurdles.
Music
As well as singing and playing the instruments, this week in music we did some online composition using Charanga. All children now have their own login for Charanga, and can access teacher assignments and listen to the song we are learning. The children were very enthusiastic and thought carefully about what made a good composition. Here is Charlotte’s work as an example.
R.E
In R.E, 3B found out more about a synagogue and the significance of some of the artefacts that would be found inside, including the Torah scroll. They were very respectful when looking at the objects, and asked lots of thoughtful questions.
Thank you to any parents who were able to attend our Harvest Festival this morning, and for your kind donations of food for St George’s Crypt. The assembly was a wonderful celebration of our school farm, with lots of fantastic singing and musical performances too. It true Farfield style, we even had some interruptions from a talking vegetable (a crown of thorns gourd, I believe).
