On Wednesday, we had a visit from Solar for Schools and they did an assembly and workshop with Y6. We also went on an energy tour of the school looking at the wind turbine on the grounds, solar panels and air source heat pumps on the roof and gas boilers in the basement. This is part of a wider piece of work looking at energy and electricity: its generation and use.  In all the 70-odd years of the school, we don’t think children have ever been allowed in the basement or on the roof!

On Thursday we had World Book Day. The school was resplendent with colourful and imaginative costumes. There were book tokens and book swaps and lots of book-related lessons and activities. We had competitions too, including a fabulous poetry recital. Many thanks to those parents that were able to support their children with this. Our KS1 classes also enjoyed an author event organised by the fabulous Truman Books – it’s great to have a bookshop in the village!

On Thursday evening, most of the Reception children were back in school for a bedtime story event! We got a number of ‘thank you’ emails after the bedtime story event, for example “We really appreciate the time and effort you put into the event and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it.” It is always good for staff to get this sort of positive feedback, especially when they go above and beyond to provide an exciting and engaging curriculum.
