It is great to be back – no, really! It was a very busy summer at school with roofers, decorators, heating engineers, fencing contractors, carpet fitters and ground workers to coordinate, but we were ready on time thanks to lots of graft and teamwork! The site and admin team have had a particularly tough time (the school looked like a tornado had gone through it just 10 days ago) but they have done a sterling job. The weather has been pretty miserable this week but the staff and children have been happy and well-motivated – bringing sunshine into the school!

It has been great to welcome lots of new children and staff to the school. Our new Reception children look smart and excited (sometimes, parents look more nervous) and our new staff have all started very well.  Lots of teachers and support staff were in a great deal over the holidays making sure that the classrooms were looking smart, de-cluttered and welcoming and I think that they did a great job!  It is a particularly exciting time for our two newly qualified teachers Miss Bray and Miss Micklethwaite who are embarking on an exciting career in what can be the best job in the world!

So… on with the important job of educating these lovely children. We had so many successes last year – results in almost every attainment measure Y1-6 were up last summer, and feedback in the parent survey was overwhelmingly positive – but a particular target this year is to further improve attainment and progress in maths. This will be the focus of our training day on October 20th.

Let’s get to work!
