Year 1 – 11.10.24
English
This week in English we had a second week of fruit-filled fun. The children designed their own fruity characters and wrote some brilliant sentences about them.
We also had our first whole-class reading lesson. The children really enjoyed meeting the reading dogs and finding out what they do. This week we used Predicting Pip to make a good guess about what might happen next in a story.
In handwriting we practiced the curly caterpillar letters c, a, d, g.
Maths
In maths this week we focussed on ordering numbers and using a number line.
The fruit also set us a challenge of finding out their mass. We had lots of fun using the balance scales to compare the mass of the fruit. Did you know that a coconut has the same mass as 6 tangerines!
Phonics
In phonics we revised the digraphs ar, or, er–ur, ow–ow as well as the tricky words me and be.
PSHE
In PSHE we looked at different playground games. We enjoyed playing ‘Farmer, Farmer may we cross your river?’, ‘Simon says’, hopscotch and various skipping games. We spoke about how being active makes us feel and how we can make choices about which types of games we would like to play.
Music
We have been enjoying learning our song for this half term. This week we played chime bars along with the song too.
Homework
Homework books are going home today. Thank you for completing the homework every week with your child!
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 1 Team
