Phonics

In phonics this week we have learnt 2 tricky words – her and are. We have also learnt the phoneme/ grapheme ar like in in ‘star.’

Busy Bee Books

This week we have looked carefully at various plants and talked about the different parts. The children then did some super writing in their Busy Bee books.

We also used the mint to make some delicious pea and mint soup.

Maths

We have been doing lots of counting this week. A key focus has been to consolidate the ‘stable order principle’ – rehearsing the order of the first 10 numbers and understanding that the position that each number holds in our number sequence does not change. We have looked at a staircase pattern and talked about 1 more and 1 less. We have also been counting beyond 20 and looking at repeating patterns when counting to 100.

RE

In RE we talked about Ramadan starting and what that means to Muslims. Some children have got their Eid calendars up at home.

We talked about why some families celebrate Easter and why it is an important time of the year for Christians (it isn’t all about chocolate eggs!). We shared the Easter story and what happened to Jesus. We also tried a bit of Hot Cross bun.

RP on the Farm

RP enjoyed their afternoon on the farm. They had fun feeding the chickens, planting ‘magic’ beans and exploring the polytunnels. Some children also saw the pigs!

Music

This half term we have learnt two new songs and have been learning about the ‘pulse’. The children enjoyed using the lycra to sing ‘A little frog’.

Tropical World Visit

We are looking forward to our visits to Tropical World next week. RP are going on Thursday 21st March and RGK are going on Friday 22nd March. The children need to wear their school uniform. Please can you ensure that your child is wearing appropriate footwear. The children need a rucksack or bag so that they can carry their own lunch and drink. Please don’t pack any nuts in their lunch.

Spring Event

Don’t forget we are holding our Spring event on Wednesday 27th March from 9am-10am. Parents and grandparents are all welcome. You will need to wear wellington boots as the grounds are very muddy! Come and explore our school grounds looking for signs of Spring.

Secret Readers

We have had some more secret readers this week. Thank you so much for reading to the children, they are really enjoying having different people read to them. If you would like to book a day with us it isn’t too late. Please email us hannah.kumar@farsleyfarfield.org.uk, alexandra.galbraith@farsleyfarfield.org.uk or sabrina.pinnock@farsleyfarfield.org.uk

Have a lovely weekend.
