Farsley Farfield Primary School

Head teacher blog 29th November

It was a very decent turn-out at Farsley Lights on Wednesday evening given the weather. This event, along with next Tuesday’s Leeds Town Hall School’s Concert, always marks the start of our countdown to Christmas. This afternoon we have sent home Christmas Fair information and raffle tickets, and halls are resounding to nativity and pantomime rehearsals. Thanks to the Friends of Farfield PTA, we should have a new audio system (infant hall), some new microphones (both halls) and lighting (Junior hall only) in time for those performances; those occasions should be even more special this year. Last Friday evening’s PTA quiz was by far the biggest we have ever done and raised about £650 for their funds. Well done to the Children’s Centre team for winning the best-dressed table prize, whilst the parent team ‘Homage to Fromage’ were the deserved winners of the quiz – well done! We are having a serious internal enquiry as to why the staff teams did so poorly…

Last Saturday morning about 20 junior children gathered at Woodhouse Grove School for a rainy cross country competition. It was a tough, undulating and very muddy course and the children showed great resilience in those difficult conditions. Well done to all the children (and the parents and carers that brought them).  Shall we just say it’s ‘character-building’…

Although it is sunny today, the rain has been getting us all a bit down. For the first time that I can remember, I have had to pull all the juniors off the fields at break times, even if they have wellies. The final straw was a Y3 boy trudging off the top field in just his socks; I asked him why and he said that both his wellies were stuck in the mud! At least the children should come home a little cleaner for a while.
